#SippyTimeBeer Review – @Dogfishbeer, @Seventh_Son_Brewing, @ShockTop and @ZauberBrewing

Dogfish Head India Brown Ale

Not my favorite beer picture but it’ll do.

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, Inc.India Brown Ale – I could have named this column the mutt beer column since three of these four beers are hybrid beers. This one is the most complex since it’s a mix of a Scotch Ale, IPA and an American Brown Ale. I probably could have used the Scotch Ale to be cut out of this equation since I’m not a fan of scotch. It’s similar to a beer being barrel aged because it tends to overwhelm the other flavors. It does come with a nice 7.2% ABV and is not that bitter with a 50 IBU. You can use their Fish Finder to figure out if you like this blend of beers.

Seventh Son Black Sparrow IPASeventh Son Brewing CompanyBlack Sparrow IPA – Seventh Son had the brilliant plan to open on Thanksgiving Day but from 9-12, I believe. The closing time is what I forget. It allowed my lady and I to pick up a couple of growlers before heading to her parent’s place to enjoy some turkey and football. I knew her father wouldn’t drink Black Sparrow because he is definitely not a hops man. I had assumed, for some reason, that my older brother’s taste in beer was similar to my younger brother’s taste. If you read the Round Table of Dunks Part 1, you’ll know that my older brother’s taste is nothing like my younger brother’s. I had bought the IPA for him to drink during the Miami Hurricanes at Pitt Panthers tail gate party the day after Turkey Day. I ended up doing the drinking at the tail gate though when I found out he didn’t like IPAs. This beverage continues my path down the hops rabbit hole. The roasted malt again makes a difference that takes the edge off the giant dose of hops. Another fantastic beer from this company in the heart of Cbus.

Shock Top Belgian WhiteShock Top Brewing CompanyBelgian White – The main reason I told the tail gating story is because of this beer. It is quite the shock (seriously, no pun intended) to the taste buds to go from a black IPA to a Belgian wheat beer. Just a brutal turn around in flavor profiles. I will not be doing that again. I would be fine drinking this beverage again though. It has orange in it for sure and was highlighted more by the lemon peel and not as much of the line peel. It has a nice cloudy orange look. Shock Top drank smooth after the initial swig. This beverage comes in at a tail gate friendly 5.2% ABV. I’m sure I don’t need to list the availability of this beer considering it’s made by Anheuser Busch.

Zauber PortergeistZauber Brewing CompanyPortergeist – Zauber sent out a tweet to see what this beer should be called. I knew it’d be a dark porter so I figured Schwarzwald, Black Forest, with all of the Germanic references in their lingo would be a good fit. They didn’t think so. Boo. Another reason that seems like a good name is because it is a mix of a porter and a Schwarzbier. Double boo. Because of the mix, the beer is thinner than I like my porters but that’s okay since I don’t know the usual mouth feel of a Schwarzbier. Like most porters, I can taste the coffee coming through but the chocolate doesn’t quite touch my palate. There’s just enough vanilla in it to be a nice highlight. The ABV comes in at 5.0% and has a low 31 IBU so if you like dark beers without too much bitter, this one is for you. Too bad this in a Columbus only choice.

@ImpactWrestling – Total Nonsense Analysis

bizarro_world

From panelsonpages.com

– I really wish England would have made Magnus‘s promo a Bizarro World style one where the crowd cheered for him. Unfortunately, the crowd really wasn’t that into him. Kurt Angle is going to continue using Sting’s description of Magnus as a “Paper Champion” which is catching on for some reason but it shouldn’t be. That term is older than most of JBL’s references. Dixie Carter tried to talk Magnus out of a match that could make Angle or Samoa Joe number one contender but it wasn’t successful. I like Magnus’s defiance to Dixie is reasonable and not over the top anger which makes his character interesting. Too bad he isn’t selling it to me in any other way.

Lai’d Tapa is still so undependable that she wasn’t tagged into her own match with Gail Kim against Madison Rayne & Velvet Sky. The match was window dressing for her angle with Chris Sabin though. I’m glad Velvet ended their relationship because that angle had tons of potential and TNA pissed it away.

– I don’t like Kurt Angle & Samoa Joe only threatening Bobby Roode ahead of the main event. You know the heels have been getting help from their friends. Take the friends out so they can’t get help. Baby faces shouldn’t always be dumb.

– The James Storm makes up with Gunner promo was supposed to be touching with buddies realizing that they went over board with each other. It does happen in real life but two tough guys like this don’t make up with words. They make up by beating the hell out of a common enemy. They did that against Christopher Daniels & Kazarian, who are perfect foils for this situation. Too bad they didn’t interrupt this lovefest earlier.

– The only thing good to come out of Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards first appearance in the ring was the stipulation that no one could interfere in the match or else you are fired, which makes threatening Bobby Roode pointless by Angle & Joe. Why are you wasting your own TV time being redundant? You only have two hours. You can’t waste it like that.

– I like the story they are telling with Abyss and Eric Young trying to control him. They’ve treated this whole angle as an experiment, using the term often, and he’s been testing out hypotheses. I believe his thinking in having a Monster’s Ball match is to snap Abyss out of his rampage by making him sympathize when he beats the tar out of Young next week and turn back into Joseph Park.

Probably my favorite Christy Hemme picture ever. Saved from Fanpop.com.

Probably my favorite Christy Hemme picture ever. Saved from Fanpop.com.

– The Samuel Shaw angle was completely not sold by Mike Tenay or Jeremy Borash, which is criminal. Shaw had a basement wallpapered in Christy Hemme along with having a mannequin of her that he kissed to close the segment. I know Bully Ray, who came out next, is more important but don’t you think you talk about the angle you just saw as Bully makes his way to the ring? Shaw needs some help to sell his angle. He’s new. Bully Ray can sell his own angle. And that’s exactly what he did. Ken Anderson continues to have not developed on iota since leaving the WWE. They’ve beaten this feud to death so I’m glad a casket match will put it out of it’s misery.

– The “Investor” got out of the car before their last commercial break. I haven’t been this unexcited for a TNA announcement ever, which is quite a statement. I haven’t read the spoilers because that’s a waste of my reading time. Samoa Joe ended up choking out Magnus to become number one contender. Samoa Joe really hasn’t developed at all since he came from ROH. Mostly yelling again in this promo. Pull another tone out of the bag of tricks. Just as Kurt Angle starts to talk my DVR cuts out so I don’t know who the investor is. It’s 12:08 EST. I’ll find out who it is after a nice sleep. (Next Day Note: It really was MVP. So TNA decided to cut Hulk Hogan & AJ Styles but they brought in Edwards, Richards and MVP. TNA is probably still saving on pay roll but doesn’t it bringing in these guys undermine the concept? They’re not going to improve their product. MVP has been gone for so long, I barely remember that I loved his character a decade plus ago.) – Kevin

The CM Punk Saga Continues

Jeremy and I had a nice show going last night talking about Matt Hardy and CM Punk. Unfortunately, I used my recording equipment incorrectly. Jeremy sounds like he’s speaking through a tin can and I sound like a pug breathing into the microphone while he talks. It’s a truly riveting show that will more than likely never see the light of day. So instead of presenting that, I’ve got a clip of CM Punk talking at Wizard World’s Comic Con that you can probably watch on just about any other wrestling website. I just happened to get it from Dot Net. Enjoy. – Kevin

CM Punk Gone From @WWE Or Just Another Angle?

angry-girl

Welcome to corporate America CM Punk. According to a report at TMZ.com CM Punk left WWE because of the way The Royal Rumble turned out and the plans for Batista to headline WrestleMania 30. He also disagreed with Daniel Bryan’s treatment and how he not only didn’t win the Royal Rumble but didn’t even appear.

Punk was livid when he learned officials scripted Batista to win the Royal Rumble … because he feels Batista isn’t in great wrestling shape and shouldn’t be featured in the title match at the upcoming WrestleMania.

So essentially, CM Punk wasn’t being recognized for his hard work and seeing others pass him on the corporate ladder pissed him off. This exact same scenario happens every single day in every office on the planet. I texted Kevin and said if this is all true then this is an absolute baby move by CM Punk. He doesn’t get what he wants so he takes off? He would have had a high profile, and logical, match with Triple H on the show. All signs pointed to CM Punk taking on Triple H for the last few weeks if not a month at the least. How was this a surprise? Maybe it wasn’t. Maybe the situation of not getting his WrestleMania main event finally wore on Punk. His interviews recently point that he was on the borderline of a total burn out so it makes sense.

I take back though that this is a baby move on Punk’s part. It is actually a rather impressive move to walk away from guaranteed money. How many of your friends do you hear bitch about their jobs and do nothing about it? Punk essentially told his boss to fuck off and left. He took his ball and went home if you will. Instead of stewing and continuing to waste away, mentally and more importantly physically, in a job he doesn’t enjoy then why not just go? Yeah he has a contract and yes he is letting people down but if he feels that this is important enough to take these actions then he should be envied.

News You Can Use: Kurt Angle, Mick Foley and the WWE

What should I take?

A young Kurt Angle has his first encounter with his biggest life long nemesis.

Kurt Angle is in the news because in the UK Sun, he expressed the idea of coming back to the WWE. Per the article

And he revealed how his future could well rest with the WWE due to “unfinished business” from his previous run with Vince McMahon’s company.

If Kurt Angle truly has unfinished business, I hope he quit his side business that WWE helped him with by tossing him into rehab last year. For his sake, I hope all is well but that isn’t very funny. What could also be serious is a short WWE run to finish things up. He’s the same age as Batista so the WWE may not care whether it’s asthma or a pill that is causing your shortness of breath five minutes into a match.

Mick Foley is in the news (Prowrestling.net that is) because he now has a comedy special on AXS TV which will air on February 6th. I had no idea what the station was until it was revealed to be the re-branded HD Net. So I don’t get the station so I will not be watching it. I’ve seen his show. Jeremy has seen his show. We both enjoyed it so I’m sure it’ll be a good show. Too bad his comedy instincts didn’t help make his pay off video for being so mad at the WWE  for not giving the him a slot in the Royal Rumble and a chance at the title at Wrestlemania. We all know you’re a famous tight wad, but to make it more dramatic can you break more than a 32″ TV that goes for $200?

– I’m mildly annoyed that the WWE has decided to skip Columbus for a taping these past two weeks. They did come on a Sunday for a house show but those don’t count. It’s the first time in the last several years that we haven’t gotten a show on the road to Wrestlemania. The WWE instead went to Dayton’s Nutter Center last Monday (January 20th) for Raw which seats 11,500 people. Last night (January 28th), they recorded Smackdown in Toledo at the Huntington Center which seats 9,341. I have no idea why they’d want to record at either of those locations considering that Nationwide Arena here in Columbus seats 19,500. The WWE has a conspiracy against Daniel Bryan, CM Punk and now Columbus. This time it’s a conspiracy of why the WWE didn’t want more money and a better crowd for a TV show. – Kevin

Annual Sting to WWE jibber jabber has officially begun

Sting-in-Scary-Outfits-with-Champion-BeltSo here we go again with the Sting to WWE rumors and speculation. The first shot was fired by the incredibly proper and reliable Rob Feinstein’s Facebook page Sting has signed with WWE and will debut the Raw after WrestleMania 30. This should probably not be considered genuine but then if we did there would be very little to write about.  So there, story over. Ink is dry and now we just have to wait.

I was just informed Sting has signed a deal with WWE in the last 24 hours. I still think personally he will show up after Mania since it seems like Undertaker vs Brock is what they are aiming for. Reminds me when everyone thought Brock would debut in Miami but they waited for Raw
See, told ya. Making the story even more legitimate is this from Sportsrant.com who has the proverbial “reliable source” stating Sting has already agreed to a deal.
I have heard it from a good source that Sting and WWE have actually agreed to a deal, including a WWE Hall of Fame induction. The Hall of Fame induction may not come in 2014, but possibly 2015 as WWE may want to feature Sting and get the fan base familiar with him on WWE Television over the next year so that his induction is even more special. I anticipate a career DVD will also be in the mix later this year as well as a heavy presence of Sting on WWE Network.
The deal includes a Hall of Fame induction in 2015 so that audiences can get familiar with Sting. It wasn’t meant as a slap in the face of Dixie Carter and TNA but it sure was a slap in the face. I commend Anthony Dimoro for this statement. The average WWE audience now has no earthly idea who Sting is and why he will be treated as important.Introducing Sting to an after WrestleMania crowd will give him instant credibility with the longtime fans going nuts over the aging star. It also allows Sting the opportunity to get in some sort of in ring shape after years of wrestling with a t-shirt.Oh my god I am doing it. I am writing as if any of these reports hold any credibility.

Look, it is entirely possible Sting will end up in WWE. His TNA contract is up and they write him off TNA television, oops, spoiler.  When that happens everyone will know for sure. These type of signings always leak. If and when there is a confirmation then we can all start complaining or all start celebrating. Until then, let’s not start the cycle already. -Jeremy

Kevin’s Blog: Almost Live, Definitely Half Assed Review of @WWE #Raw

On Hold Music

From Amazon.com

I’ll do the intro tomorrow. It’ll explain the picture. (Next Day Note: So I got to start this column fairly late after being on hold with American Airlines who will do you the privilege of not charging you for a ticket for a whole 24 hours if you only use their airplane services. Unfortunately, my lady was also going to use Frontier on her itinerary so they’re going to charge her immediately. The call took long to answer so the woman needed to start over again ordering her ticket which only infuriated her more. Just to put whipped cream and a cherry on top of the situation, American Airlines didn’t send her a confirmation email but did send me her itinerary. Note to myself: Get her a new laptop. Another Note to myself: Don’t use American Airlines because they’re a pain in the ass.)

They give us a brief overview of John Cena’s last 24 hours. Stephanie & HHH get to kick off the show. I wish HHH had gone down the cry baby fans angle a little further. He crows about all the good stuff that happened at the Rumble. He works as a hype man. Stephanie announces Randy Orton in an Elimination Chamber match. Daniel Bryan interrupts. Stephanie with the condescending answer. He is stepping up big time. I mean, a Cleveland crowd is lively so Stephanie is clearly wrong. Power to the people is what Bryan is preaching. He wants into the Chamber. Bryan then steps up to HHH. I rewind to watch my boy Seth Rollins fall over the barricade. Bryan gets beat down from the Shield. Sheamus comes out to help but gets overwhelmed. John Cena makes the final save. Fun opening segment.

Sin Cara & Rey Mysterio are in the ring as a tag team. They are taking on the Real Americans. Jack Swagger not looking sharp against Sin Cara. Zeb Colter slaps Swagger. He ends up taking over against Sin Cara. A break? Really? Sin Cara DDTs Swagger for an opening. Cesaro gets dumped outside. He tosses Mysterio off the ring apron.  Mitchell Cool reacts to a roll up a little too forcefully (Next Day Edit: Cool acted like it was an innovative move which a victory roll is not.). Sin Cara can’t get the tag. He takes a rough looking drop even if it was flat. Mysterio finally gets the hot tag. He cleans house. Rey gets a couple of near falls on Cesaro but Swagger makes the save on the later. 619 on Cesaro. Sin Cara misses the Swanton and goes for a spring board. Cesaro catches him with the super upper cut. Neutralizer for the win. Here goes another Real Americans push.

Bad News Barrett has bad news for the TV viewers. We are warned of the Miz vs Dolph Ziggler in the battle of Cleveland. I can always love some Cleveland hate. Ah, the losers line. So our preview is the Monday Night Wars for the WWE Network? Wasn’t that already implied? If you’re not excited about a Summer Rae addition to Total Divas, you’re A) not male B) gay.

I am imagining a man pleasuring himself by sticking the heel into his anus like Summer is giving them a strap on after winning these dance shoes on a WWE.com auction.

I am imagining a man pleasuring himself by sticking the heel into his anus like Summer is giving them some deep dicking from strap on after winning these dance shoes on a WWE.com auction.

Fandango is taking on R Truth. Xavier Woods is back on the head set. Woods claims JBL stole his number. Emmalution gets to dance a little more this week. Summer Rae plays the part of siren and Truth gets blasted with a clothes line. They love talking about Woods PhD. The match is way more about the announcing. Truth gets a two count. Round house kick by Fandango gets a two count. Truth Detector for the win.
