#SippyTimeBeer Review – @3Floyds, @ElevatorBrewing, @LeftHandBrewing and @OhioBrewing

3 Floyds Robert the Bruce

In order to play some form of catch up, I’m going to start reviewing four beers a week. When I was talking to Jeremy last week, I realized I was at least 27 beers behind. I may add a second posting per week. I definitely have a bad beers article in mind for the future.

3 FloydsRobert The Bruce Scottish Ale – My neighbor Fred loves to talk about 3 Floyd’s. He’s been to the brewery in Muenster Indiana and has introduced me to any number of their flavors. This one I found on my own though but got it because of good previous experiences. I’m glad I took the chance because this is easily one of the best beers I’ve had this year. It’s already on the short list for Best Beers of 2014 that I’ve tried, which will be posted in about a month. Don’t worry, I’ve got a round table of drunks who have treated their liver as poorly as I have so it won’t be just my perspective for a change. Back to Robert the Bruce which has two different types of malt in it with a dash of hops to offset it. It’s official that I’ve got a soft spot for beers with plenty of malt. It’s got a punch at 7.0% alcohol too. They only distribute in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio and Wisconsin. If you live nearby one of these states, it’s worth the trip to drink this beer.

Elevator Brewing CompanyHeiferweizen – Elevator was the first microbrewery I went to in town. Since they have a cow on the label to this beer, so they call it Heiferweizen. That’s the only thing that makes this beer different from a regular hefeweizen. It has the familiar banana and clove flavors that comes from the yeast. I’m not cool with their suggestion that you add a lemon to the beer. It’s plenty good to drink by itself.

#SippyTimeBeer Review & Links – Ohio Brewing Company

Ohio Brewing Buckeye Blond

Ohio Brewing CompanyBuckeye Blonde – As I put in my Instagram (@difrango11) post …”so tasty, I almost took a picture of an empty glass.” Since it’s American Craft Beer Week, I went to Kenny Road Market and grabbed a pick a six pack. This company is out of Akron OH is one that I don’t think I have heard of prior to looking into their cooler. It tasted a bit like a hefeweizen because it has a spicy kick or nutmeg or cinnamon. Buckeye Blonde is made like a Belgian ale instead of it’s German sister. It is a seasonal beer and the distribution probably isn’t in your area unless you live in the Buckeye state or just south of the border in Kentucky. Feel free to call the distributors from this link if you want to find it. It’s worth seeking it out. Very tasty and crisp.

A couple of links for you to peruse: Zauber Brewing in Cbus tweeted this link earlier in the week that is worth checking out. “How to Decipher the Beer List at Your Local Craft Beer Bar” is the name of the article. If you have any time following what types I’m beer I’m drinking, go there.

In a Sippy Time Beer Review back in April, I pimped a local food truck called Ajumama which is run by fellow Kent Stater Laura Lee. She’s got a shoot at cooking on Live with Kelly & Michael. Voting started early this morning and runs thru 8 PM Saturday May 18th. Their food is extremely tasty so go vote for them, -Kevin

#SippyTimeBeer Review – What I Drank During The Super Bowl

Elevator Thirsty Dog Tommyknocker

Elevator Brewing CompanyWicked Goat Barrel Aged I.P.A. – This beer is a departure from the normal I.P.A. because of the barrel aging. It dulls the taste of the hops or they don’t put in as much as normal. It tastes like they’re using an oak barrel because it definitely has a hint of it in the flavor. This beer is out of Columbus. They have a fabulous brew pub that was the earliest I had heard of aside from the Columbus Brewing Company. I have a vague story about my bachelor party from Elevator but I’ll save that for another time.

Thirsty Dog Brewing CompanyWhippet Wheat – This is my favorite beer from Thirsty Dog. As you can imagine names all of their names have a dog reference in them. The alliteration should not dissuade you from trying this beer. It is extremely smooth German Weizen beer. You can definitely taste the banana in there with something else surrounding it which ends up being clove and vanilla. You can check to see if it’s in your area here. I suggest finding it if you’re in one of those states. It may be out of Akron, but it has solid distribution.

TommyKnocker BreweryButt Head Doppelbock Lager – I’ve got to admit, I didn’t actually drink this one during the game. I like keeping a trio of reviews at a time though. I had this one for my dad’s 70th birthday party. As far as I know, this beer has been sitting in my parent’s fridge for two years. I’m not sure if that changed the taste at all. Although it was a lager, it was thicker than normal and the tasty were more like a porter. It does use caramel malt like the Founder’s Porter. It was tasty for a possibly skunked out beer. I’ll give it another taste from a fresh bottle just to be sure. This beer is the only one on this list not from Ohio. It’s out of Colorado. Here’s their distribution so taste one and make sure it isn’t skunky too. -Kevin

PWO – Season 4 – Episode 4

PWO had some issues with snow. Not really surprising in Northeast Ohio.

Vic Travgliante opened the show with Matthew Justice at his side. Vic mentioned that Justice lost to Brian Bender the last time he was on PWO TV. Justice said it was time for everyone to see the one man of militia. He finished by saying he was young, metal and ready to attack.

Analysis: You should have stopped at the one man militia, Mr. Justice. He needs to act more pissed off with these interviews in the future as it’ll help get over his change in attitude. Justice didn’t sell it as much as needed. Score: -1.

The introduction piece then ran. Joe Dombrowski and Aaron Maguire introduced the show. Pedro De  Lucca introduced Bobby Beverly but no one from Sex Appeal accompanied him. Matthew Justice was his opponent. Dombrowski noted that Beverly asked Nicky Valentino & Bobby Shields to stay in the back. The announcers hyped their event in Akron. Dombrowski mentioned that severe weather in the northeast Ohio area limited travel so the PWO roster was shaken up. (Yep, my source mentioned that. Glad they addressed it pretty much right away.) Justice took control early. He gave Beverly a cross body while Beverly was on the floor. Beverly superkicked Justice and only got a two count. Beverly drop kicked Justice in the stomach. Beverly assaulted Justice on the outside. A low clothesline by Beverly stunned Justice. Justice blocked another super kick attempt and then turned the tables on Beverly. Beverly locked on a koji clutch but Justice reached the ropes. Bobby Shields & Nicky Valentino came to ringside. Shields grabbed Justice’s leg which lead to him being super kicked by Beverly which gained him the pin fall. As Sex Appeal set up for the menage e trois, a triple thrust kick, but they bickered. Beverly bailed to ringside. Shields & Valentino set up to kick Justice who ducked and clotheslined them. Justice then tossed them out of the ring.

Analysis: They set up the break up or at least pairing down of Sex Appeal. I’m not sure if they need to do that. Well, I guess I’d break them up over pairing them down because Beverly could be top dog (He kind of is already anyway) and keep Valentino & Shields as a tag team. I’m not sure they’ll do well enough as singles guys. Beverly can pull it off.
