Yokozuna added to WWE Hall of Fame class of 2012

Bonzai!

WWE has announced yet another induction in to the fictional WWE Hall of Fame. The final inductee is Yokozuna. This is pretty good news because Yokozuna was fantastic. Sure he got a little to heavy at the end of his career but at the onset he was great. He may not have been Japanese but as a joyful tween it didn’t matter nor was it noticeable. Damn you dirt sheets for ruining it for me and planting subtle seeds of racism in my tender mind.

On a down note; Yokozuna is yet another wrestler no longer on this earthly palate that WWE has inducted. They are near perfect with inducting one dead wrestler a year since The Hall of Fame’s inception. Don’t believe me? Well here is a list.

1993 Andre The Giant
1994 “Nature Boy” Buddy Rogers
1995 Antonino Rocca
1996 Vincent J. McMahon
2004 Big John Studd
2004 Junkyard Dog
2005 none
2006 Eddie Guerrero
2007 Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig
2008 “High Chief” Peter Maivia
2008 Eddie Graham
2009 The Von Erichs (Fritz,Kerry,David,Mike,Chris)
2010 Gorgeous George
2010 Stu Hart
2011 Road Warrior Hawk
2012 Yokozuna

There is only one year that a dead wrestler avoided induction and that was the stellar class of 2005. Now if Hogan, according to his book, had pulled the trigger you would have an after the fact dead guy in the Hall of fame but as it stands he is slowly killing himself working in Orlando. So, shouldn’t be too much longer really.
So congratulations to the family of Yokozuna. -Jeremy

Stunt Granny Poll: Which pro wrestler is best known in mainstream America?

This is the start of a larger conversation the Stunt Granny crew is currently having via instant message. (Did I say “currently”? Because I meant “after business hours.”) This is also a small chunk of a larger list of wrestlers whose mainstream acceptance and recognition we intend to discuss soon. We just want to get your thoughts on a few of the outliers (or in Hall and Nash’s case, outsiders). The wrestler(s) who gets your vote is the one whose name Joe Q. Sixpack would most likely respond to with, “Oh yeah, that wrestler,” as opposed to, “Who in the hell are you talking about, hillbilly?” As always, leave a comment!

(Author’s note: It didn’t even click with me that this same discussion is happening in the Bruce Mitchell Zone of the PWTorch.com VIP Forum, and that thread started because of a Bruce Mitchell Audio, to which I don’t listen anymore. That’s OK, multiple perspectives are welcome. And the Ultimate Warrior does belong in the discussion.)

Awesome Kong swinging through FCW before WWE

"Have fun in Florida, sister brother!"

According to Diva-Dirt.com (yep, they’re a reputable source, probably the only one for serious women’s wrestling news), a video package aired this weekend on Florida Championship Wrestling for Awesome Kong, leading anyone with half a cerebellum to assume she’ll be stopping in FCW before she makes her WWE debut. I’m over my old complaint that screamed, “They’re already developed! They don’t need developmental!” Whatever. WWE makes more money in a month than I’ll make in a lifetime, so who am I to question them? They could send Tyler Black back to the fourth grade and it would make more sense than anything I could come up with. I once had Skeletor beat the Junkyard Dog for the WWF Title when I was seven; does that make a god damn lick of sense? No. So when you see Kong in FCW, A) thank Diva Dirt for the alert, B) send Jason Powell a quick note telling him to stop saying, “This would have been a great chance for Kong to debut,” and C) pour one out for the JYD. -Eric
